Virtual Voices Programme update
How can we develop young people's voices so they become the content creators and storytellers of the future?
Virtual Voices: a conference presented by South West Screen and RiO
Thursday 10 July 2008, Watershed, Bristol, UK
The programme for Virtual Voices is really coming together and we will be announcing keynote speakers shortly. In the meantime we thought we would keep you posted on progress...
To book tickets (£50 including lunch), contact Watershed Box Office: 0117 927 5100.
Panel Sessions
We have two panels planned for the day, discussing the challenges industry faces in this increasingly interactive digital age where viewers are moving away from traditional TV and newspapers towards formats that are more participatory in nature. Channel 4 will be there talking about their award winning Skins marketing campaign....and we'll also have young writers talking about how Skins broke the mould and captured the young audience everybody thought had stopped watching TV.
Workshops
Delegates will be split into four groups to undertake a hands-on workshop of their choice:
- Radiowaves - Delegates will have a hands-on chance to make a podcast, upload video and examine the ways in which Radiowaves can be used to engage young people with online debates.
- Pervasive Media Workshop and Demo - Delegates will be invited to experience an interactive tour of the harbourside area around the conference venue, each with a very different story to tell about the history and geography of the space.
- Voices, Stories and Campaigns - This session will feature young members of the archimedia group talking about how they worked to plan, fundraise and produce KWMC's new, state of the art eco-building.
- Young People to be consulted on their views about lots of important things to do with media literacy! - Young people attending Virtual Voices will be given a real chance to have their say on the big decisions being made by government and the people who advise them.
A full-on lunch
Lunch time will be extended to give delegates the chance to experience the passionate debates that will be generated by the Chew TV table. A uniquely interactive device that will be pre-loaded with media to inspire live comment and debate about the issue of online safety, the Chew table will bring debates about the virtual environment into the real world.
Work screened
The afternoon will feature a screening of work designed by young campaigners, media makers and community activists to make us sit up and listen to what they have to say. A call was put out across the UK and Europe for work that was made to tell the stories that really matter to a wide range of young people from diverse backgrounds. Those that were judged by other young people to be most effective in their attempt to persuade, inform, cajole and charm us will be screened on the day.
Join us on FacebookWe've set up a Virtual Voices group on Facebook. We want the group to be a place where people can exchange ideas and useful links about the issues Virtual Voices is addressing. If you use the site, please join our Facebook group - the 50th member will win a pair of cinema tickets! Join here if you're a Facebook user.
