These courses have been designed to help companies on the Passport to Export programme realise their potential for international trade in a structured and professional manner. All our courses are led by carefully chosen presenters with hands-on experience in international trade. Two-day workshop: Developing International Business
This two day residential workshop is an integral and mandatory element of the Passport to Export programme.
For owner-managers, directors, and decision-makers
The workshop will give you time out of the day-to-day running of your business to:
¨ develop and consider how to implement your export strategy;
¨ research and select appropriate overseas markets;
¨ consider routes to market;
¨ understand cultural and language issues; and
¨ access UK Trade & Investment support.
The workshop will encourage you to develop a strategic approach to international trade and is highly interactive, focusing on the particular needs of your business. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of the free accommodation offered in order to benefit from the evening networking opportunities.
After this course your International Trade Adviser will help you to implement the action plan you have developed.
Internet Strategy
A one-day course examining the internet as a tool for developing your export business.
For export managers, sales & marketing managers, and owner-managers
The course consists of case studies, demonstrations, interactive exercises and group discussions.
Each module will end with an action planning session: you will make decisions on how to apply what you’ve learned to your own business.
Why you should attend
After this course you will be able to:
¨ use the internet to enhance your export strategy;
¨ use the internet as a powerful tool for finding suppliers, customers and researching new markets;
¨ use the internet to communicate effectively with customers and suppliers;
¨ understand the principles of good website design;

International Presentation Skills
This is a one-day course that will improve your presentation skills: helping you to communicate your message effectively to an international audience, and to ensure that your message is the one that will be retained.
For export managers, sales and marketing managers, and owner-managers
This course will ensure you know how to give a powerful presentation with confidence in any situation – large and small, formal and casual.
Although this course is relevant to all situations, it focuses on helping you perfect your presentations for an international audience.

After this course you will know how to prepare for, stage and deliver a confident presentation. Topics include:
¨ avoiding problems and pitfalls and knowing your audience;
¨ location, set-up, equipment, logistics;
¨ self-awareness, pace, volume, timing, handling questions, adapting to the audience;
¨ confidence in yourself, your performance, your message and your knowledge.
Appointment and Management of Agents and Distributors
This one-day course explains techniques needed to find, appoint and motivate agents and distributors.
For export managers, sales and marketing managers, and owner-managers
This course gives you the opportunity to discuss agents and distributors. You may not know how to approach or appoint distributors, or you may have agents with whom you have problems.

After this course you will be able to:
¨ choose the right way to enter a new market;
¨ manage export sales pricing: sales and international commerce terms, and sales negotiations;
¨ appoint an agent and understand legal contracts;
¨ use agents and distributors effectively;
¨ cope with agreements (cost/compensation), the EU Agents Directive and Competition Law.
Exhibiting in the UK and Overseas
This one-day session will help you to promote your company at exhibitions.
For export managers, sales and marketing managers, and owner-managers
This course will discuss the objectives and benefits of exhibitions for promoting your company.

¨ establish objectives: plan and prepare for exhibitions;
¨ develop and convey key messages to open and close conversations at an exhibition;

Researching Export Markets
This intensive one-day course is an invaluable introduction to the process of planning and conducting marketing research overseas

The training programme is structured to provide a thorough understanding of marketing research techniques whilst addressing the specific needs of individual delegates. It anticipates the pitfalls and stumbling blocks of both conducting research in-house and in using market research agencies and gives practical and authoritative solutions.

Course fees
The two day, mandatory workshop, ‘Developing International Business’ is free for up to two delegates. The one-day courses are free for one delegate, and cost £100 (including VAT) for additional delegates.
However, to secure your booking for all courses, we ask you to send us credit/debit card details or a cheque – the fee is £100 (including VAT) for each delegate. This is to ensure that we do not receive cancellations at short notice. We will return your cheque, or destroy our records of your card information, shortly after the course, once your attendance has been confirmed.
